Hilary, Jon, Chase and Dani found their way through the hot rain to this year’s Neocon in Chicago. Over 3 days, we saw many showrooms, new products and old favorites. Some we loved and some we…liked.
We noticed a few themes in this year’s offerings, the most notable being a shift toward a more residential feel. West Elm partnered with inscape to develop 4 different product lines for open office workstations, Mid-century, modern, industrial, and Contemporary. The wood finishes and metal details provide a more custom look along with file cabinets and personal storage that are not your average office furniture.
Almost every workstation manufacturer is now providing a height adjustable benching solution. We particularly liked Renew Link from Herman Miller. The cable management was tidy and the fine ply edge could easily blend into our aesthetic and preferences.
Other items that were nice to see in person were Maharam Kvadrat Memory in use, which upholstered beautifully. The OFS Hinchada sofa and the full range of Maharam’s new area rug offerings. Each one was beautiful and definitely worth seeing full size.
Neocon is always such a whirlwind. Between dinner dates, sore feet and cocktail parties, we managed to see some pretty great stuff. And we must give a shout out to the O+A team that designed the 2015 Kimball Office showroom. It really did stand out among the crowd. It was a welcome diversion from typical tech driven, modern showroom designs. Well done guys!
