And the Honor Award Goes To…
O+A is thrilled to share that our latest workplace project, adidas EVE (East Village Expansion)—a 182,000 sq ft office structure and a 31,000 sq ft boutique fitness center—received an Honor Award, the highest achievement, in the Interiors: Large Office category of the inaugural ARCHITECT Architecture & Interiors Awards.
When adidas organized a national design competition in 2019 for an expansion of its North American Headquarters in Portland, Oregon, the sports giant invited interior designers, architects, and landscape architects to enter as teams. Selecting O+A, LEVER Architecture and GGN, adidas established at the outset a culture of collaboration that proved to be an essential element of the project’s success. When, in the middle of construction, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, a unified team that could roll with the disruption was already in place.
EVE invites employees back to a workplace that is visibly committed to personal agency. It’s there in the flexible work areas inside of the GOLD Building that invites users to determine their daily journey with clip-in fixtures and movable furniture. It’s there in the Performance Zone, an extraordinary investment in staff health and wellbeing. And it’s there in the textures and palettes throughout both buildings: custom graphics designed by O+A, mobile carts full of samples and materials, and crafted details that echo adidas’s brand values.
“The use of exposed building systems, concrete, and just the right amount of wood is a textural feast for the eyes.”
Juror Denise Rush, Dean, School of Interior Architecture, Boston Architectural College

Congratulations and shout out to our wonderful client, collaborators, design team (especially O+A Design Director Mindi Weichman who relocated for this project!), and vendors for making these vibrant and sustainable buildings a reality—and ARCHITECT Magazine Editor-in-Chief Paul Makovsky for the recognition and support.
